Lyrics

How many footprints have I written?

How many faces have I dreamed?

How many strangers have I watched

in the mirror,

fading like a falling stream?

(Special Chorus)

How many times

have I woke in the morning,

feeling tired and all alone?

(Chorus)

Until you

My one kind of love

The sun up above

Lighting all my tomorrows

Every time that I look at you

The truth comes shining through

It’s just you

My one kind of love

How many smiles have I run from?

How many roads have I roamed?

How many trees have I watched

along the river,

each one longing for a home?

(Special Chorus)

How many times

have I felt all my sorrow,

like a boat the lonely sea?

(Chorus) REPEAT

(Bridge)

For so long I kept my eyes closed

Hoping the world would disappear

But now my heart shines like a rainbow

Your faith has drowned all my fear

Story

A heartfelt Merry Christmas to all my wonderfu, loyal listeners! Hope you enjoy this Christmas folk song I wrote recently, which has a slower, jazzier, kind of pretty melancholy to it.

Lyrics

Santa I’m getting old

That’s why I don’t write you no more

But I still believe

In carols on Christmas night

And furry sleigh dogs that don’t bite

Snowflakes on our sleeves

How it’s so hard to leave

When it’s time to go

Santa I’m getting old

That’s why I don’t visit the North Pole

But I still believe

In poinsettias’ winter dread

Going from green to red

Watching the Christmas tree

You cuddled next to me

Saying, I love you so

(Special Chorus)

And Christmas stories, filled with glory

They just don’t get me no more

But when you look at me, and my soul is freed

Let’s walk under the mistletoe

Yes, Santa, I’m getting old

But I don’t care anymore

Maybe I’ll go to grey

Just as long as I still believe

Santa it’s time to be young

So many songs left unsung

Next year I’ll believe

In music that lights up the night

In a world that can live without fright

And in a love that always grows

Hey, baby, don’t you know

You get more beautiful every day

Santa I still believe

Santa I’m getting old

That’s why I don’t write you no more

But I still believe

In carols on Christmas night

And furry sleigh dogs that don’t bite

Snowflakes on our sleeves

How it’s so hard to leave

When it’s time to go

Santa I’m getting old

Story

I wrote this song while on a trip in the US, thinking about my wife in Germany. I have played it live in Hamburg and the audience loved it! I'm also shopping this song on the alt-country market and plan to include an acoustical/light rock version of it on my upcoming album.

Lyrics

Well, I’m missing you, like I never have before

Guess you’re living in me, a little more

The trees just ain’t as green

And the sky just ain’t as blue

Cause I’m missing you

(Chorus)

A house just ain’t a home

Till you’ve wandered off alone

And love just ain’t a church

Until it's grown

And life just ain’t as sweet

Without you next to me

Cause I’m missing you

Hmm … yeah I’m missing you

Sidewalks talk, as they roll on

Like cemented doom, chasing June

And this maze of busy streets seems like some lost dream

Cause I’m missing you

(Chorus)

Repeat

(Instrumental)

(Bridge)

There’s a hard breeze blowing through my heart tonight

Saying it just ain’t right without you by my side

Seems everywhere I go and everyone I meet

Has got a little bit of you, and a little bit of me

Got to find myself a plane and fly across the sea

To have you next to me … tonight

(Chorus) Repeat and End

Story

I have been living abroad in Germany for over a year now, enjoying European living with my wife, Corinna, and creating songs and novels in my comfy, quiet studio set in an oak forest in a little city called Lueneburg, just south of Hamburg.

People frequently ask me what I miss most about the US. Well, after my family and close friends, the big next is the beautiful, seemingly endless abundance of land in America, and the highways that stretch out like "the arms of God above."

Ironically, "American Highway" was written on a beach on the Bering Sea on the northwest coast of Germany.

Lyrics

Riding down your country roads

The wind blowing through my hair

Your trees’ gentle arms reaching out

Erasing all my cares

I think of you almost every day

Since the stars took me away

All this happy man can do

Is smile and let it fade

(Chorus)

And I, will be back again

To ride, on your warm soft winds

Dear America, you’re my endless page

Let me write on you, with a quiet rage

USA, your lonesome highways wrap around my heart

I can feel you reaching out

Like the arms of God above

Touching all I long to see

Before I reach your love

Take me to that special place

Where time dare not go

Ain’t it funny how our bodies fade

But our eyes never grow old

(Chorus) Repeat

Story

A year ago, staying in a beach cottage on the Eastern Sea (Ost See) near Warnemunde, Germany, with my wife and her parents, I wrote this birthday song for my father-in-law, Heinz, vowing that I would record it the following year for his next birthday. I wrote the song on a lazy, sun-peach-filled afternoon relaxing in the cottage. When Heinz went for a walk on the beach, as my wife and her mother napped, I wrote this song, performing it for him later before we went to bed (part of that live recording was put in the studio recording ... listen for it!).

My hope was for a song that we could sing for him every year ... a song that captured the beauty and serenity of his birthday vacation (a vacation we take for his birthday every year), as well as the goodness, kindness, and texture of Heinz's life.

Happy Birthday, Heinz! To many more!

Lyrics

The sun’s lying down on the Eastern Sea

My pretty lady’s sitting next to me

Her father goes walking to think of where he’s been

As the sun, she just keeps on sinkin’

(Chorus)

And as the years roll by

I’ll sing your birthday lullaby

Lullaby … lullaby

Don’t feel like doing anything

But soaking up the peace that this place brings

Maybe one day we’ll find our way back

Until then let my guitar photograph …

(Chorus)

… the years rolling by

As I sing your birthday lullaby

Lullaby … lullaby … lullaby … lullaby …

(Bridge)

When we walk along, he looks at me as patient as the sea

And the footprints of time make him gleam

All the places he’s been, make him who he is today

But what made this good man, who can say?

(Chorus) Repeat

Lullaby … lullaby … lullaby … lullaby …

Lyrics

Angel Can’t Land

You kept trying to land

I bet you thought something was stopping you

I’m just this foolish man

But even I can see the simple truth

It’s not the things you've said and done

Or those who've come and gone

Or your heart that still wanted to give

It’s in the morning when the sun

Says you were fighting all wrong

It’s the light in the beauty of your smile

In the end, you see, angels can’t land

But you tried … yes, you tried

You gave so much more than you got

I bet you even thought it’s not a lot

But if I wrapped it in a box

I could give it to the world and make it stop

For just a moment to see

How it’s hurt you and me

Though your heart still wanted to give

But in the morning when the sun

Says you were fighting all wrong

You’ll feel the gentle warmth of your smile

And know, after all, that angels can’t land

Though you tried … yes, you tried

Story

I wrote a song last Christmas entitled, Christmas Rain. The song was for two good author friends of mine who were going through hard times during the holidays. One of them, Sue McLeod, published author of Soul and Shadow, was fighting cancer. Both friends seemed to be doing better, and one still is. However, unfortunately, Sue is fighting cancer again this year (for the fourth time).

This is her song.

If you, or someone you know, is a cancer survivor, please share this song. Every time you hear Sue's song, you bring her, and others like her, great hope. All proceeds from this song are donated to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.

Lyrics

My thoughts keep drifting to Rochester

And a woman there who calls me friend

Can’t catch a bus from where I’m living

I’d fly but I got squat to spend

(Bridge)

Seems a hard breeze is blowing

Through the field she tried so hard to mend

Hope it don't steal but it’s the same thing

We all have to face in the end

Don’t like the shapes these clouds are making

Ugly faces in the wind

I feel so helpless like a stranger

Writing letters I can't send

(Bridge)

But who knows if these words will make it?

If my guitar had wings I’d be a saint

Does she know how far she’s reachin’

With my gratitude, New York I’d paint

(Chorus)

Sue, don’t you know?

That this moment isn’t real

That the truth is how you feel, about music

Wherever you may go, angels follow you

And the stars they leave behind help you choose

To smile every today

No matter what they say

Your heart already lights up New York

(Instrumental)

(Chorus)

Repeat and End

Story

It has been a stressful fall, and this song came at the last minute. The song's inspiration came from listening to how excited my wife was about Christmas, so excited that Christmas was even in her sighs ...

Lyrics

Christmas in Your Sigh

When I’m dancing in the darkness

To life’s sad lullaby

I think about the river

Of Christmas in your smile

When I’m feeling tired and hopeless

I reach for my guitar

Those old Holiday songs

Tame life’s wild fire

(Bridge)

When I find myself wandering

Down that road paved of fear

I look up at the sky

Hear the country in your why

I slide down the mountain

To the snow-covered fields

Of Christmas in your sigh

When I’m tired of counting

These days that fly like light

I think about the wise men

Following that star in the night

And when it feels like nothing

Will ever satisfy

I think of the lost children

Who find a way to smile

(Final Bridge)

When I find myself walking

With no shoes on my feet

I look through the dark

Hear the ocean in your heart

I skate through the park

To watch the winking lights

Of Christmas in your sigh

Instrumental

I hear the country in your why

The ocean in your heart

I slide down the mountain

To the snow-covered fields

Of Christmas in your sigh

Lyrics

Yes it’s been too long

Since I wrote you a song

But life wrestled me to the ground

Illusions how they kick you around

But September, September's hanging on

Yes, September, September’s already gone

Sometimes I get lost

In who I want to be

Oh, I wish the world could only see

My words how they could set it free

But October, October soon will be here

In October, the leaves will disappear

(Instrumental)

Like a gull in the wind

We get swept away

We’ve been hurt so many times before

Sometimes it’s hard to reach for shore

But November smells like vanilla rain

In November, we won’t be the same

(Special Chorus)

Every morning I tell you I love you

But should I forget, September’s my best friend

In September, I’ll write you a song again

Lyrics

I wake up every day

Close my eyes and pray

For someone who can make us stop and think

About where we’ve been

And where we’re goin’

And how to free us from these stubborn sins

(Chorus)

But it ain’t me

It ain’t me

I’m just the breeze

Blowing through your hair

I don’t care if it’s a he

Don’t care if it’s a she

Any color just one who feels the beat

Of what we’re going through

Mother Nature, too

Can’t stand another king, pawn, or stooge

(Chorus)

But it ain’t me

It ain’t me

I’m just the wind

Flying through your cape

We’re throwing you a rope

A frayed line of hope

Can’t you see our time is running out?

We need some new ideas

From a heart that really cares

And a soul that can smile away our fears

(Chorus)

But it ain’t me

It ain’t me

I’m just the bird

Singing in the tree

It ain’t me

It ain’t me

I’m just the breeze

Story

I wrote this song for my wife, Corinna's birthday. I originally planned to record a song I wrote, "Forever 39," but this one just seemed to pop out. I wanted both the song and the movie to depict the beauty, magic, and timelessness of youth. I also wanted a song that she could dance to (she loves to dance!).

PS, It also just so happens that Corinna looks impressively young. Don't you think?

Lyrics

Wake up, Baby, it’s your birthday

And there’s something I want to say

But these feelings I have they just keep on growing

And sometimes words get in the way

Look at you, you’re so beautiful

Your face time just can’t hold

But if I could how much I love you in years

Girl, you’d be ten thousand years old

(Chorus)

And you, have this way of bringing me out

And you, are always there when a frown comes around

Like the sunlight roaming through trees that sigh

I want to be the one walking by your side

And like the wise old owl with his bedtime song

I want to be the one always telling you, Hun

With all the years that have sung,

Can’t believe in the morning how you look so young

Come lie close, it’s your birthday

And I got a gift for you

But it’s not the kind I could wrap in pretty paper

And a bow like I wanted to

Let’s walk down to our old town

Where we married not long ago

And let me say those words that make you feel

Like you’re the only thing in the world

Story

I recently went on a Mediterranean honeymoon with my wife, Corinna. Of all the beautiful places we visited, from the French Riviera, to Rome, to even Montenegro, the place that furrowed the deepest in my heart was Venezia (Venice), Italy. In fact, the day we left I kept hearing this song wherever I went, its lyrics sculpting in my mind in the wee hours. When we returned, I sat with my guitar and let it find its fruition.

Lyrics

Oh, Blue-Green Wanderer (Song for Venice, Italy)

A starry-eyed lover serenaded the sea

A jealous moon rose and Venice was dreamed

By the time I arrived, her lover had gone

But down each glass canal, you can still hear his song

(Chorus)

Oh, blue-eyed wanderer, will you marry me?

Together we'll build a home on the sea

Sinking steps will be our alter, always touching you

The flowers in the window, our love in bloom

And each ship passing through, will sound its lonesome horn

Because we loved so completely, Venice was born

You still haunt the city, like a lonely gypsy

Kissing the doorsteps, looking for me

I know that I'm not the man you loved before

But my guitar is his gondola, and my words his oar

(Chorus)

My blue-green wanderer, will you stay with me?

Forever we'll live in our home on the sea

I'll sit on the steps, waiting for you

Watching the passing, lazy lovers of June

And after all the travelers have come and gone

Because we loved so completely, Venice lives on

(Instrumental)

And till I return, in my heart you will be

Oh, Venice, true love, between man and the sea

My hope is that others can listen to the song while flying and gain some comfort from it, knowing they're not alone.

Safe flying to you,

Lyrics

Plane, Plane

Plane, plane, where are you going

Plane, plane, why do you make my life flash by?

Will you hold my hand as we take to the sky?

And will you hum to me

When you shake like a lie

(Chorus

Oh, plane, plane, I wasn’t made to fly

Plane, Plane, it helps just knowing

What goes up, must come down

As the earth says goodbye

Should I close my eyes?

Now, brothers and sisters

Everything will be all right

(Chorus)

But, plane, plane, we weren’t made to fly

Instrumental

Plane, plane, I think I finally se

I need you, as much as you need me

Maybe one day, my fear will abate

Until then, don’t test my faith

Lyrics

Well, Mother’s Day is here again

And while I’m not adrift in sin

I’m not the boy I wish that I could be

I let my hair grow way too long

Just sit around and write these songs

Waiting for the world will let me in

(Chorus 1) But if I could ask the moon for a favor

Or hang out with the sun for just a day

I’d take away each one of your worries

Throw your children’s thorns away

Well, seasons they have come and gone

So many feel they don’t belong

I sit and watch you love them just the same

All the killing in the streets

While you sit at home and weep

Darling, don’t you know, you’re not to blame

(Chorus 2) If I could ask a star for its power

Swallow its light for just a day

I’d take away all of your suffering

Throw your children’s thorns away

Well, yesterdays won’t come again

Buy that don’t mean that we can’t mend

The things that keep you up at night

No matter how we have to try

To understand your lullaby

And stand next to you in the fight

(Chorus 3) If I could go back to Creation

And be with God for just one day

I’d ask Him to take away your heartache

Throw your children’s thorns away

Story

I think most of us believed Leonard Nimoy would be around forever, showing up dapperly aged for a grandfatherly Spock role in every new Star Trek movie that came out. I myself didn't even consider him passing on now. This made it perhaps more shocking for Star Trek fans like myself.

I wasn't sure this tribute song would get written. It came, like many of my favorite songs I've written, as a specter in the night, a whisper in dreams. I lied awake and my mind went to work. Then off to grab the guitar and work out a melody. This night would allow little sleep.

When the song came, only a few days after his death, my Mac Book crashed. The Apple Store couldn't even get the darn thing to turn on. What followed were some of the most frustrating days of my life ... much like perhaps having a baby that refuses to come out. With a trip to Spain, planned long ago, things were looking pretty bleak; would I get it out in a reasonably amount of time for a tribute? I tried to close my ears to all the tributes that I knew were coming out, silently cringing. I'm still not sure if mine is too late.

After a lot of persuasion, prayer, and help from my fiancee, I finally got my pc back and went to work. Now, at the two-week anniversary of his death, I release my tribute song and movie. Oddly enough, the sound engineering and moviemaking seemed to just fall in place. Was the late musician and movie master helping me? Hmm ...

I want to personally thank everyone who appeared in my movie. And, of course, I want to thank Leonard Nimoy for the incredible legacy of artistic beauty and vision that he left behind.

Lyrics

A star doesn’t smile, it don’t know how

So it rose in your face with one eyebrow

And it set in your voice like a lullaby

Till that frowning Friday morning you said goodbye

(Chorus)

You were so much more than just blood running green

An artist and a poet chasing dreams

As I remember you, I promise not to cry

’Cause I know you’ll live long and prosper in the sky

A star doesn’t love it only shines

On all the hearts you moved with your time

And on the beautiful garden that you grew

To the Final Frontier, Spock, we send you

(Chorus) Repeat

(Bridge)

We toss around the word, forever

Do we know what it means?

But all those souls you brought together

Will live in perfect memory

(Chorus) Repeat

And when I look up at the stars

Burning bright, there you are

Side note: the centuries-old storage house in the movie is in the view from my writers studio in Luneburg, Germany; the view partly inspired the lyrics. This is our first Valentine's Day in Germany, and the movie was intended to be an electronic Valentine's Day card.

Lyrics

In the morning the snow covers the ground

Though I never even saw it fall down

Shall I imagine a place up in the sky?

Where it hides

Before noon the sun appears

Though not long ago she paled in fear

Against those bully clouds that ruled the night

She won the fight

(Chorus)

Though our love’s this beautiful dream

Going to hold you like it’s the truest thing

Now there’s no reason to be afraid

'Cause with you every day’s Valentine’s Day

In the afternoon the clouds they return

With all their scars from the sun you think they’d learn

But in life everything has its own way

And that’s okay

My old friend the crow takes his branch

Soon he’ll trade me for some other plans

That don’t mean his cranky siren don’t belong

It’s in my song

(Chorus) Repeat

(Instrumental)

(Chorus) Repeat and end

Yes, everything’ll keep going our way

'Cause in the end in our Valentine dream we’ll stay

Story

I've taken vacations abroad, but I've never left my country to live in another. After forty-seven years living in the United States (born and raised in Miami, FL), I boarded a plane with my fiancee, Corinna, for Germany where we plan to live, work, and marry. I feel this decision will not only allow me to get to know my life partner more deeply, but also wing me in terms of health, peace, and much more time and energy to focus on my art.

But leaving one's homeland comes with many challenging thoughts and emotions ... one's that triggered this song. At first I was afraid, until I realized that home is inside of us, not outside.

Home is where we roam.

I hope you enjoy the song, and I wish you great success with your own journeys of life.

Lyrics

I like to picture myself an icebreaker

But even those boats get stuck sometimes

After forty-seven years

Maybe I’ve finally found my prime

(Bridge)

Yeah, so don’t give up

We all get stuck

Maybe life’s about getting out

(Chorus)

I’ve got your land in my pocket

Got your freedom in my shoes

Got the love of a woman

To chase away the blues

Got the memories of our fathers

And our mothers in my heart

But still it ain’t easy

To say farewell to where I started

Then don’t, say goodbye

Just stand before the plane and close your eyes

And think of all the people

With no place to call their own

And maybe you’ll remember

That home is where you roam

Oh, those mountain, majesties

Please don’t try and stop me

Eagle in the sky

You could make me cry

(Bridge 2)

The land of the free

You’ll always be in me

I’ll be back again you’ll see

Story

I was talking to a good literary friend of mine recently. She told me that she had more time to read this holiday, but may not have a job next year. It's funny how different things inspire artists ... sometimes just a few words ... I guess they stayed with me, and I began thinking that as a full-time artist, I don't really have a job. Then it occurred to me that I better ask Santa for a job.

But it couldn't just be any ordinary job ...

Lyrics

Got lots of free time,

But I ain’t got a dime

Sure hope I don’t spend Christmas in the welfare line

(Chorus) Dear Santa, I need a job

But please not till New Year’s Day

Where I can tune my guitar

And sing the blues all day

A no-strings woman

You can love then walk away

I just sold my car

And most of my things

Can’t wait for the simple joy that Christmas brings

(Chorus) Dear Santa, I need a job

But please not till New Year’s Day

Where I can park for free

And play online all day

A no-strings woman

You can love then walk away

Taking me a cruise

Down to Cocoa Kay

Sure love my sweet baby

But next year’s I’m gonna pay

(Chorus) Dear Santa, I need a job

But please not till New Year’s Day

Where I can make all the rules

Then collect the boss man’s pay

A no-strings woman

You can love then walk away

Story

I wrote this Christmas song in 1992 while sitting in an old dormitory study room, pillaged by final exams. I was looking for Christmas, and as I sat in the room with my guitar, you must believe me, memorial snowflakes began twirling around me, then outside. And when the song was finished, I had found Christmas.

Twenty-two years later, I found the song on an old cassette, whining and hissing like a trapped snow wolf. I finally recorded it properly, after surrendering to my mother's years of unflappable wrangling. When I listened to the recording, I found Christmas again. Now I hope to keep it the rest of my life.

I hope the song brings you the same things.

Happy Holidays!

Lyrics

Christmas is falling on me again

Like a snow from my youth

Each soft flake a memory

Twirling in my room

The season is cheering my soul again

Like it’s done times before

(Chorus) And as each year rolls on

I’ll sing this song till Christmas time is every day

Here I am counting the days again

Like a child lost in sweet dreams

So much to wake up to, so much joy to bring

This year I’m going to make it count

Let love light my way

(Chorus) Repeat

(Bridge)

I’ve tried to give more than receive

But I don’t need a thank you, to keep the memory

I’ve tried to be good all year long

But I don’t need a story, to make it live on

So this year I’m making brand new start

Going to live from my heart

Why wait till next year?

To play my part

Cause Christmas is falling on me again

But this time it’s here to stay

(Chorus) Repeat

Story

I wrote this song last year, Christmas 2013, while my partner, Corinna, was away in Germany just before Christmas. Missing her, and thinking about the meaning of the holidays, I picked up my guitar and this song was written in about 30 minutes. A few weeks later, while on a cruise in the Caribbean, I proposed to her ... and she said yes.

Lyrics

She's across the ocean, so far away

And as I write this song, she's sleeping peacefully

But she'll be coming home soon

In time for Christmas Day

(Chorus) Cause you believe in magic

Reindeer pause on your rooftop

You believe in chasing rainbows

And wishing on a falling star

But if you don't believe in angels

Then you haven't seen her smile

Well it's time to go shopping

Decorate the Christmas tree

Write your letter

Put up your Christmas wreath

Don't forget the stocking

And please hang one for me

(Chorus) Repeat

Instrumental

(Chorus) Repeat and End

Story

I wrote this song as a Christmas gift for two author friends, Kat and Sue, who are both going through some very hard times this holiday. The song's about brightness after dark times, as well as the true meaning of friendship. If you know someone who is going through hard times this year, please share this song. All proceeds from this song are donated to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. Thanks and Merry Christmas.

Lyrics

You’ve been giving since I met you

Giving, giving, giving

That’s your way

Since way back when I was no one

Huh, guess I’m still no one today

(Bridge) Now it’s Christmas time again

And I heard you’ve been walking in the rain

Sure wish I had something, something more to give

Than just being a friend

(Chorus) Should I take a box of memories,

And hide it in my heart?

Let it warm through Thanksgiving,

Till it lights up the dark

Should I wrap it in music,

And bows made of words?

Tie the prettiest little card,

That you’ve ever heard

But on Christmas Day

The greatest gift for you

Will be wrapped in those raindrops

And the beauty that you made it through

Well we’ve all lost someone

Or faced the freezing road

Of losing ourselves

But we’ve got to hang on to,

The peace that comes with loving

Everyone else

(Bridge) Now the Holidays are here

And I heard you’ve been dealing with some fear

Sure wish I had something, something more to say

Than just I really care

(2nd Chorus) Should I take a box of memories,

And hide it in my heart?

Let it warm through Thanksgiving,

Till it lights up the dark

Should I wrap it in music,

And bows made of words?

Tie the prettiest little card,

That you’ve ever heard

But on Christmas Day

The greatest gift for you

Will be wrapped in those fears

And the beauty of making it here

Instrumental

(Final Bridge)

Soon we’ll bring the New Year in

But I know you’re tired of walking in the rain

Hey maybe we’ve got something,

Something more than being a friend

Yes maybe being together

Makes everything right in the end

Lyrics

(Copyright 2014, All rights reserved)

If there’s hope enough in me

Then there’s hope enough in you

So why don’t you give a little more?

Let some light through your door

We all come from stormy pasts

But that don’t mean that we can’t last

Just keep looking for your angels

There everywhere … everywhere

(Bridge chord)

I’ve traveled to the sea

Lost myself in memories

All around me were angels

Turning the sky to pastels

Don’t try to understand

Don’t get lost in your own plans

Just let the angel inside  you

Spread its wings and take you … away …

(Chorus)

Angels … calling

I can’t see your sunrise

Did I forgot to close my eyes?

Angels … falling

They’re everywhere you look

All those chances that you took

Wait and see

All your angels are walking next to you

(Instrumental)

(Chorus) Repeat

Come on world, look me in the eye

I’ll show myself, I’ve got nothing to hide

I walk streets, feel their danger

But hey, I know, I ain’t the Lone Ranger

I just want to do, what feels right

Find a way, to fight the fight

Try and see what’s going on

Why we all can’t seem to get along

But who am I with this simple song?

I wish I could right every wrong

But you see that’s not what I’m trying to do

Hey listen to me, I’m talking to you

Just open your eyes, look around

We’ve all got angels, looking to be found

But it’s only when we see with our souls

That we make a difference in what we know

Every flowers seem to bloom, all the stars seem to rise

A woman’s beauty shines right before your eyes

A child’s simple truth becomes the only way

Feel the beat in your heart, when you sway

Look at me, I’m out of time

Can’t say I’m much, for laying down the rhyme

But I see you, what you going to do?

You’re listening to this song, time to get it on

To find your angels, just see with your mind

And before long, you’ll come to find

If we all looked up, at the same time

The world could change, and we’re way behind

Story

Leos (Born between July 23rd-August 22nd) are very prominent in my life (four of them, and that's just off the top of my head). They are strong, supportive, courageous, and deeply loving. I don't know what I'd do without them. I was thinking about them one day and this song came out.

If you're a Leo or friend/family to one, I hope this song reaches you. If so, please share it!

Lyrics

Leo

The morning sun lights your way

If you could find the right words to say

You’d make it stay

You’d make it stay

Evening gypsies have come and gone

Just a few leave their song

But I wanted to

I wanted to

(Chorus)

And I want to stay here forever

Sometimes you make it so damned hard

That’s just the shadow

The shadow of your smile

Your road’s as straight as an arrow

Like a brook from the North Star

Be what you are

I need you … Leo

Life goes by in the wink of an eye

If I think about it too much I’ll cry

You don’t want me to

You don’t want me to

So let’s make the best of now

This moment’s our life anyhow

You know it’s true

You know it’s true

(Chorus) Repeat and End

Story

This song is a tribute to Nashville singer/songwriter, Charlsey Etheridge. I met her at a wedding I was DJ'ng in Jasper, GA. In over fifteen years as a professional musician, I've never heard a voice like hers at a ceremony. She showed up just before and said, "I just want to do this as an acoustical thing. You don't really have to plug me in really." I put a standing microphone in front of her, just before a pasture opening its arms into Georgia mountains. She started singing and everyone turned into those mountains ... in beautiful shock, in courage, and in immediate remembrance.

Afterwards, I was so inspired that I really embarrassed myself. I said, "Are you pursuing a career in this?" What a "foot-in-mouth" thing to say! She told me she's in Nashville. As if I hadn't embarrassed myself enough already, I then went on to say, "I'm a songwriter and I'd be honored if you ever sang one of my songs."

Charlsey is a songwriter as well. Click here for her Website.

The day she sang in Jasper

How the wind raked o’er the pasture

The mountains stood like proud fathers in the distance

And her voice conquered all our resistance

The day she brought her guitar

We all knew that she’d go far

The way she stood like a general in battle

And the place she went no hurricane could rattle

(Chorus)

Days like these keep spreading like white-gold fire

But it’s time for this DJ to retire

To his words that long to stand forever

Like the day she sang in Jasper

(Instrumental)
